WhatsApp is one of the most widely used social media applications in the world. The Meta-owned instant messaging app keeps updating it with new features and improvements to improve the user experience. Currently, WhatsApp is working on a host of new features, as reported by WaBetaInfo. We bring you a list of features that will soon be available on WhatsApp web and mobile app. Looked

Ability to chat with yourself

Currently, WhatsApp users can send messages to themselves. With the new feature, the platform will highlight that chat by adding “message yourself” as the chat caption. A report from WaBetaInfo adds that the option to chat with your phone number will also be available in your contact list on WhatsApp so that it becomes easier for users to access their own chat.

Profile pictures in group chats

Another WhatsApp feature under development is the ability to set profile pictures for individual contacts in group chats. The profile picture of group members will be displayed when receiving a message in a group. If the group member doesn’t have a profile picture, or one isn’t available due to their privacy settings, the default profile icon will be displayed in chat.

Ability to transfer media with caption

WhatsApp will soon allow users to transfer images, videos, GIFs and documents, with a caption. The feature is currently available on the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.22.23.15 on the Google Play Store. It is also likely to roll out to other devices.

New blur tool for images

The ability to blur images is currently available to some desktop beta testers. The feature allows WhatsApp users to censor sensitive information from their images in a neat way. WhatsApp, according to the report, has created two blur tools allowing users to edit their images using another blur effect. Users can also choose the size of the blur in order to apply the effect with granular precision

Auto-download media to desktop

WhatsApp will soon allow its desktop users on Windows and macOS to manage automatic download settings for photos, videos and documents. The feature, at present, is only available for beta desktop users.
