Library to host voter registration campaign
The Marshall Public Library will be hosting a voter registration campaign in partnership with the Harrison County Election Office on Monday, September 20 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Citizens must be registered to vote by Monday October 4 in order to vote in the November elections.
Roadcap, Mitchell to speak at Rotary
Carla Roadcap and Charlotte Mitchell will be guest speakers at the Marshall Rotary Club this Thursday at noon at the Panola-Harrison Electric Cooperative. They will be talking about their work with Genesis PrimeCare.
Members, community residents and business leaders are welcome.
Tri-County Community Action is looking for a new representative to the Board of Directors
Tri-County Community Action has a vacant position on its board of directors, the organization said. The opening is for the Panola County area, Harrison and Upshur for the representative of the poor.

Republicans meet on Friday
Harrison County Republican Women will meet on Friday, September 17 at 11:45 a.m. at the Marshall Elks Lodge. The guest speaker will be Michelle Brannon, the mother who advocated for power line legislation following the 2017 deaths of her son and two others at Lake O ‘The Pines. Wanted veteran and active duty photos
The Marshall News Messenger will post a free, inaugural section on Veterans Day on November 11 and is looking for photos of Harrison County veterans and active duty service members past and present.
Please include person’s name, line of service and years of service (if known). All branches of service are welcome, as are all wars and conflicts. Photos of several family members who served are also welcome.
Greenhill No. 2 Baptist Church to host old-fashioned big day, rebirth
Greenhill No. 2 Baptist Church is hosting a big day and old fashioned revival from September 19-22.
Sunday September 19 will be the Old Fashioned Big Day at 3 p.m. with special guest Pastor Von Thomas at the Hopewell Baptist Church in Athens.
Revival services will be held every evening at 7 p.m. Sept. 20-22 with guest evangelist Pastor SL Bell of First Baptist Church in Texas City.
The church is located at Greenville Baptist Church No. 2 at 208 Scottsville Road in Marshall.
Free blood pressure tests offered
East Texas Baptist University Nursing Students will be offering free blood pressure tests to the community at the Marshall Public Library. The screenings will take place on September 16, 20 and 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Further screenings are planned for October and November.
ETBU plans to perform Great East Texas Hymn Sing on Friday
East Texas Baptist University will host the Great East Texas Hymn Sing on Friday, September 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Baker Chapel at the Rogers Spiritual Life Center. This annual tradition is a special time of worship and fellowship as participants sing the hymns of faith. Special guests, the Foto Sisters, will also participate. Choirs and religious groups are invited to participate. Free entry to the event.
Singing Men of East Texas to host concert on September 16
The Singing Men of East Texas will present a free concert on Thursday, September 16 at 7 p.m. at Marshall’s Central Baptist Church located at 106 E. Fannin St.
This group is made up of music ministers, pastors and other church and association staff, teachers, as well as lay people who are actively involved in the music ministry of their respective churches in the East Texas region. The concert is free. A love offering will be taken to offset the expense of their mission and recording projects.
Pleasant Hill CME Church to host annual choir anniversary
Pleasant Hill CME Church will be hosting its third annual choir anniversary on Sunday, September 19 at 3 p.m.
Praise choirs, groups, soloists or dancers are invited to share praise songs or dances during the celebration.
The church is located at 9720 FM 9 North in Karnack.
Market in the square organized every week
Marshall hosts Market on the Square, a farmers’ market held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Market on the Square is located at Telegraph Park in the 100 block of North Washington in downtown Marshall. The market offers locally grown and produced fruits, vegetables and handicrafts, jams, jellies and flowers.
125th Anniversary of Tatum United Methodist Church Ensemble
Tatum United Methodist Church’s 125th anniversary celebration will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
Located at 150 East Jackson Street in Tatum, the church is headed by Reverend Dwain Smith. The church was the first to serve the settlers of Tatum and has a rich history of community service over the years.
The congregation is happy to mark this momentous occasion and invites everyone to join them in their service and celebration.
Celebrate the revival to be held every Thursday
Celebrate Recovery will take place every Thursday at Cypress Valley Bible Church, located at 4190 W. Pinecrest Drive.
Meals are at 5.30 p.m., large groups at 6.30 p.m., small groups at 7.30 p.m. and café-café at 8.30 p.m.
