The City of Geneva will host a public information meeting in September to preview the Illinois Department of Transportation’s upcoming East State Street reconstruction project.
Residents and traders are invited to the meeting which will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday September 14 at the Geneva Public Works Department, 1800, rue Sud.
Those planning to attend the informal open house type meeting should wear a face shield inside the building.
Starting in spring 2022, the Illinois Department of Transportation plans to rebuild State Street (Route 38) from Kirk Road to Fox River.
The overall project includes pavement widening, streetscape works, traffic lights and street lighting improvements. The city will relocate and upgrade the underground electricity and water utility infrastructure as part of the construction.
The proposed improvements do not require the relocation of a house or business, but will require the purchase of rights-of-way and easements.
The project will also have minor impacts on Old Mill Park, located along the east bank of the Fox River north of State Street.
Construction is expected to be near completion in 2024 and the checklist items will be completed the following year.
Those unable to attend the September 14 meeting can submit public comments to the City before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28.
