Giant Eagle Selects StorMagic for Pharmaceutical Data Management, Encryption and Key Management

BRISTOL, England – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – StorMagic®, simplifying storage and security from the edge to the core, today announced that Giant Eagle, Inc., a U.S. food, fuel and drugstore retailer with more than 470 locations in five states , selected the StorMagic SvSAN Virtual SAN and SvKMS Encryption Key Management software to ensure availability and protect data in its more than 200 supermarkets with in-store pharmacies.

After struggling with their aging physical SAN solution, rising maintenance costs, and supply issues with the solution’s self-encrypting hard drives, the Giant Eagle team began to explore other options. StorMagic’s virtual SAN and encryption key management systems were chosen to ensure availability and add enterprise-grade key management capabilities to the environment. Today, SvSAN runs on 3-node Lenovo clusters in each store and SvKMS runs on three virtual machines in its main data center.

“Giant Eagle selected StorMagic’s three-node configuration for increased resiliency and availability to deliver a superior user experience while providing a highly secure platform,” said Jeff Moore, Senior Director, Enterprise Server , Giant Eagle, Inc. “StorMagic SvSAN was implemented to virtualize our storage, eliminating the challenges of rotating disks at edge sites, and SvKMS was a natural addition for advanced key management. The SvKMS key management solution provided further integration within the StorMagic platform and provides the encryption we need to keep our customers’ critical data safe.

StorMagic SvSAN is compatible with any x86 server, requires a minimal IT footprint, and is designed to be easily managed by any IT professional, making it an ideal solution for retail environments. SvKMS is a flexible and robust enterprise key manager that affordably addresses a plethora of security challenges.

“StorMagic has kept hardware requirements and costs low while helping Giant Eagle meet its primary goals of adding high availability and encryption to protect sensitive patient data while meeting all major compliance regulations,” said Brian Grainger, CRO at StorMagic. “The retailer now achieves a high level of redundancy with only three nodes per store, which would have required four or five servers with competing solutions. By also implementing our enterprise key manager, Giant Eagle solved two major issues that edge sites commonly face today – ensuring both uptime and security – which will easily extend to their workloads. basic data center work over time.
