Host, nominations and what to know

In 1992, the very first MTV Movie Awards were featured with Dennis Miller as the show’s host. The new awards show aimed to de-stigmatize award shows and turn them into a fun and unexpected experience for all viewers. The show airs annually at the start of the summer blockbuster season for the motion picture industry and also allows the general public to vote and decide each year’s award recipients.

In 2017, which celebrated the awards’ 26th year, MTV expanded the scope of the show and decided to honor television as well. From then on, it was called the MTV Film and Television Awards. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the MTV Awards, and the public is more excited than ever to find out who will win golden popcorn.

So, let’s dive into what we know about this year MTV Film and Television Awards. The show will air at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2022 on MTV and other Paramount channels, including BET, Comedy Central, MTV2, Paramount Network and VH1.. The scripted ceremony will be followed by NOT SCRIPTED at 10 p.m. on the same network channels.

MTV Movie & TV Awards: Host

It has been revealed, after much secrecy, that Vanessa Hudgens will host this year’s show. Hudgens is known for her rise to fame across the Disney Channel circuit when she started in Musical high school. However, the starlet recently scored some welcome points when she hosted the MTV Movie & TV Awards: The Greatest Special Ever in 2020. The actress proved her commitment to being a bonafide host when she introduced the greatest Scream Queen of all time, Jamie Lee Curtis, and found herself doused in fake blood. That’s the method!

Hudgens took to Twitter to announce her return to hosting, posting a video to the @MTVAwards account. In the video, Hudgens happily says:

“I’m back!…and believe me: you don’t want to miss this.” »

MTV Movie & TV Awards: The Nominations

The show is known for its outrageous categories that differ from the typical awards show. Although there are often featured categories in the awards circuit – Best Picture, Best Show, etc. – there are several original categories that have always attracted viewers, such as Best Kiss. Plus, audiences love how weird and cringe-worthy the show gets. One year, Perfect stars Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine kissed while rolling on the floor. In another, Rita Ora ripped off Zac Efron’s shorts, much to the delight of many teenage girls. So what to expect from this year’s nominees?

Spider-Man: No Coming Home leads with seven nominations ranging from Best Picture to Best Performance in a Motion Picture. HBO’s hit teen drama Euphoria takes second place with six nominations, and The Batman is third with four. Many believe that Zendaya is the obvious choice for Best Kiss, in which she is nominated along with her real-life boyfriend Tom Holland. squid game, which premiered on Netflix this year, is also up for winning for Best Show. Still, the category is filled with nominees like Marvel Loki, Euphoria, Inventing Anna, Ted Lasso, and Yellow stone.

Not much else is known for this year’s awards show yet, but more will be released closer to the premiere.
