How can I fix OneDrive sync issues on Windows 11?

1. Reset the app

  1. Click the magnifying glass icon to bring up the Windows 11 search bar.
  2. Search the OneDrive application.
  3. Right-click on the app and select App settings.
  4. A new window will appear. Scroll until you see Reset.
  5. Select the Reset button to reset all OneDrive settings and resync the app.
  6. Conversely, you can select the three dots at the top of the OneDrive app to scroll through the menu.
  7. Click on Settings.
  8. You have the possibility to reset the application by clicking on reset now at the bottom of the settings menu.
  9. You may also notice that your OneDrive space is full. This is most likely the cause of sync issues, as you run out of room for additional files.
  10. If so, click Get more storage.
  11. You will then be redirected to a web page where you can purchase more storage space for your OneDrive account.

2. Add OneDrive to Windows Defender Firewall whitelist

  1. Click the magnifying glass icon to bring up the search bar.
  2. To research Windows Defender Firewall and select the first entry you see.
  3. Click on Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall in the left menu.
  4. Click on Modify the parameters at the top of the menu.
  5. Scroll down and locate OneDrive in the Allowed apps and features menu. It should be automatically added to the whitelist.
  6. If this box is not checked, select OneDrive, then check the boxes under Private and Public.
  7. If it’s not there or if OneDrive still isn’t working, click the Allow another app… bottom button.
  8. A new window will appear. To select Browse…
  9. In this new File Explorer window, search for Microsoft OneDrive.
  10. Click on the specific folder or file you want to whitelist on Defender Firewall.
  11. It will appear on the small window. Click on To add on the background.
  12. When finished, click Okay basically.
  13. Then close Defender Firewall and check if OneDrive is working.

3. Disable Proxy Server via Settings

  1. Click on the Start menu in the lower left corner.
  2. To select Settings.
  3. To select Network & Internet in the left menu.
  4. To select Proxy.
  5. Locate Manual proxy configuration and select Implement.
  6. If enabled, click the blue tab to disable it.
  7. Click on To safeguard basically.

4. Revert to Default DNS

  1. Click the magnifying glass icon to bring up the search bar.
  2. Search the Control Panel and click on the first entry you see.
  3. Click on Seen by at the corner.
  4. To select Category.
  5. Click on Network and Internet.
  6. In this new window, go to Network and Sharing Center.
  7. Click on Change adaptation settings on the left side.
  8. Right-click on the Ethernet0 or WiFi network, whichever you have.
  9. To select Properties in the new drop-down menu.
  10. Then double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/ICPv4).
  11. To select Obtain the DNS server address automatically.
  12. Then click Okay to save changes.

5. Reset OneDrive App with Command Prompt

  1. Bring up the search bar again by clicking the magnifying glass icon.
  2. This time look for the Command Prompt.

  4. Enter the following command in the command prompt: %localappdata%MicrosoftOneDriveonedrive.exe/reset
  5. To hit Enter to execute the command.
  6. Once you have run the command, launch OneDrive and sign in to your account. You should no longer have synchronization issues.
