This year, the University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Speaker Series is back and in person for its 14th annual season.

The season kicks off Sept. 26 with celebrity chef, TV personality, and author Carla Hall at Texas Hall on the UTA campus. Hall first won over audiences when she competed on Bravo’s Excellent chef and Top Chef: All Stars, sharing his philosophy of always cooking with love. She is a trained chef who has worked in several professional restaurant kitchens in and around the Washington, DC area, and believes that food connects us all.

Hall spent seven years co-hosting ABC’s popular Emmy-winning lifestyle series The Chew. She is currently featured on Food Network shows Thanksgiving, Holiday, and Halloween Baking Championships as a judge and America’s worst cooks as a host. Her 2018 cookbook, Carla Hall’s Soul Food: Everyday and Celebrationlanded on annual “Best Cookbooks” lists across the country and received an NAACP Image Award nomination in the Literary Work – Instructional category.

In 2021, she publishes her first picture book, Carla and the Christmas Cornbreada heartwarming tale loosely based on Hall’s childhood in Nashville, Tennessee that celebrates family traditions and includes a kid-friendly cornbread recipe perfect for the holidays.

Tickets for “An Inspirational Evening with Carla Hall” are available at utatickets.com. The event is free for students, faculty, and staff, and just $5 for the general public. Visit the Maverick Speaker Series website for updates as new speakers are announced.
