Newtown Florist Club to Host Facebook Live Chat for Butler Center Projects

The Newtown Florist Club is hosting a live Facebook chat on Tuesday, October 26 to celebrate the long-delayed construction of Butler Park and the restoration of the Butler Center.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Newtown Florist Club Facebook page to discuss plans ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony on November 4. County Commissioner Jeff Stowe and Gainesville School Superintendent Jeremy Williams will discuss the plans with Andre Cheek-Castleberry of the Newtown Florist Club.

Participants can ask questions throughout the conversation via Facebook Live.

The National Park Service formally approved funding for the park on Athens Street earlier this year, releasing $ 536,000 for the construction of the park, which will include a playground, pavilion, restrooms, basketball court, a body of water and trails.

The Butler Center is currently owned by Ninth District Opportunity, where it manages its Head Start program. The unused portion of the center that was once the gymnasium and classroom for EE Butler High School is being restored with grants.

An inauguration ceremony for the projects will take place on November 4 at 4 p.m. at 1290 rue d’Athènes.
